Online Tutors Needed for Vietnamese StudentsVietnam Skype Project Published: August 12, 2015
A training project in Vietnam is looking for volunteers to practice English on Skype with university students once a week for 45 to 60 minutes.
The students are studying English in the School of Foreign Languages at a university in northern Vietnam. Many become teachers, translators or work in tourism. The Skype project is free to the students.
The project leader is an English teacher at Thai Nguyen University and is from Thai Nguyen city. Thai Nguyen is two hours north of Hanoi.
The project begins on August 31 and runs for 15 weeks. It requires volunteers interested in sharing conversation and learning about Vietnamese culture.
The students are intermediate level learners and most conversations are about Vietnamese culture and the culture of the volunteer's country.
The Vietnamese students are adept at digital technology but seldom have the opportunity to practice with a native or fluent English speaker.
Many come from farms and villages in the mountains of northern Vietnam.
