We are currently seeking a Youth English Teacher to join our team in Potrero, Costa Rica. The position begins on August 17, 2015.
The successful candidate will share a passion for our cause and values. They will deliver English classes in Potrero Monday through Thursday and on Friday coordinate a fun group activity such as sports, arts, or games. We are seeking motivated and flexible candidates who possess a positive attitude and a willingness to invest time and effort into the organization and the wider community by actively contributing to the delivery of Abriendo Mentes’ vision.
Plan and implement all daily PreK-6 English classes/activities
Design interdisciplinary activities for weekly lessons
Schedule classes and notify students and parents of any schedule changes
Supervise, incorporate and assist Classroom Aides and facilitate their classroom orientation
Coordinate and execute all Fun Friday activities with the help of Classroom Aides
Track attendance and related incentive programs
Assist with matriculation and update list as necessary
Record lesson plans in AM Youth English documents
Coordinate and execute English evaluations with assistance from volunteers
Maintain clean and well-organized classroom and Youth English office space
Track materials and notify Program Coordinator of any additional resources needed
Maintain strong communication with supervisors, volunteers, parents, and partner schools
ESL teaching experience (6 months +)
ESL certified a plus
Experience working and/or teaching in a diverse classroom environment with mixed ages
Strong classroom management abilities
Ability to create relevant English lessons for mixed abilities. Lesson planning skills preferred
Experience living or working abroad, preferably in Latin America
Bilingual with native English and advanced Spanish
Commitment of 6 months. Preference will be given to those who can commit to one year
