Canisius College seeks a part time adjunct instructor for fall 2015 to teach a cross cultural version of the College's First Year Seminar (FYS101) designed to meet the needs of international students as well as native speakers of English.
The position requires availability to teach weekday afternoons as well as availability to attend three faculty meetings per semester and to assist with one full day of testing and placement at the start of the semester. Masters or Ph.D. in TESOL or related field or in Rhetoric and Composition or English. Experience teaching English language learners and/or freshman writing courses at a college level. Expertise in teaching writing as a process, research, reading and critical thinking.
The candidate must be able to address the needs of a classroom audience including both International and American students new to college and to the experience of reading, writing and critical thinking at the college level. Experience with online student discussions and social media highly desirable as the course includes an online community. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential as is the ability to collaborate with administrators and faculty in other departments.
